Prussing Elementary School Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Announced

The following press release was put on the Prussing Elementary School website:

October 30, 2015

Dear Prussing Community:

Earlier today, Prussing was evacuated due to elevated carbon monoxide (CO) levels in the building. Prussing students have been relocated to Smyser Elementary, 4310 N. Melvina Ave. If you have not made other arrangements, please plan to pick your child up at Smyser at 3:15pm.

Numerous personnel from the Chicago Fire Department, Chicago Police Department, Chicago Public Schools, and Alderman Arena were all on site to help with the management of the situation. Please know that at all times, our absolute first priority was the immediate health and safety of Prussing students.

About 80 students and staff were transported to area hospitals today for precautionary purposes. We know how difficult this day has been for students and parents and we are continuing to work through the afternoon on managing the situation.

As of right now, we expect that school will be open on Monday. If this information changes we will notify parents as soon as possible.

We appreciate your patience as we have worked through the situation today, and we will update you with additional information as it becomes available.
